Required Packages

Before installing Real Cat System, make sure the following packages are already installed.

Installation

  1. Open your world project in Unity.

  2. Double-click RealCatSystem_ver○○.unitypackage to import Real Cat System into your world.

  3. In the Project view, open the folder below. From the cat Prefabs in that folder, drag and drop a cat in your preferred color into the Unity scene. Assets/Pon/RealCatSystem/Cats/Prefab/

Adjust the cat’s scale to your preference as well. A scale of around 0.8 will make it look more like a kitten.

  4. Because the cat roams around freely, you need to define the areas where the cat is allowed to walk. From the same folder as above, drag and drop any number of Prefabs named RoamArea into the Unity scene, then adjust their positions and scales. These regions will become the areas where the cat is allowed to walk.

The cat’s height is automatically adjusted so that it stays on the ground. Therefore, it does not matter if the RoamArea is vertically offset from the ground or floating in the air.

  5. In the Hierarchy, select the child object named 表示確認用メッシュ (display preview mesh) under each RoamArea you placed, then turn off its checkbox in the Inspector to disable it. This hides the region visualization in the editor.

If you do not mind seeing the 表示確認用メッシュ, you can skip this step. It is set to EditorOnly, so it will automatically be hidden after the world is built.

  6. In the Hierarchy, select all cats you placed in step 3, then find the Roam Areas property in the Inspector

Once you find the Roam Areas property, drag and drop the RoamArea objects you placed in steps 4–5 into it. This defines the areas where the cat is allowed to walk.

  7. Finally, configure texture compression. (Real Cat System’s textures do not have compression settings configured by default. Applying the settings below can significantly reduce your world size.)

In the Project view, open the Assets/Red_Deer/Cats/Cat_Simple/Cat/Textures folder, then select all texture images in the folder using Ctrl+A or another method.

    image.png

With the textures selected, change the Compression setting in the Inspector on the right to Normal Quality.

If you also plan to upload the world for Android (Quest), make the following changes in addition to the settings above.

  8. Build or upload your world and check out how the cat moves! 🐈
